After having participated with the Atlanta Police Foundation in the planning stages of the Atlanta Police Department’s Leadership Institute, Andrew Young School faculty members, led by Dr. Damon Camp, will provide training for two tiers of the program. Dr. Camp has previously designed and implemented a training-based promotional system for the selection of sergeants, lieutenants, and captains in the Metropolitan Atlanta Transit Authority Division of Police Services and is currently directing the MARTA/Georgia State University Joint Training-Based Promotion Project for the MARTA Police Department.
Beginning this summer, faculty from the Criminal Justice department of the Andrew Young School will offer a series of one-day leadership modules focusing on topics like conflict management, organizational assessment, communicating as leaders, and ethical leadership in a diverse community. For one tier of the program training will be provided to three cohorts of up to twenty officers each year. The next tier of the training will be for one cohort of up to 20 officers each year. The project is expected to run through April of 2016.
